Rust Proof Spray Paint for Cooking Surfaces?
So I buy this $800 Charmglow BBQ from The Home Depot with top of the line grill grates made of cast iron and porcelain coated because I’m tired of the $100 versions rusting and requiring replacement every 1 or 2 years. I’ve had it for about 8 months and sure enough, the grates start rusting. I have a BBQ cover, but there have been times where I have used the grill and forgot to cover it after it cooled and it rained that night. Replacement grates are upwards of $40 a piece and I have been doing some research trying to find a spray on product to prevent rusting, handle the high heat, and safe to cook on. I found Rutland Stove Paint which can handle heat of up to 1200 degrees and is meant for BBQs and Stove tops, but doesn’t actually mention that it is safe to cook on. Does anyone know if this or any other product will be a cheap alternate to replacing the grates every few months?
There isn’t a paint that is safe to cook on.
Clean the rust off your grates, then follow the seasoning directions in your owners manual.
If you can’t find how to season in your manual, look it up on the internet. Should be the same as Cast Iron Pans.
