Picnic Table Plans and Drawings – It Just Makes It Easier
Ok I have my picnic table plans and drawings, my circular saw, table saw, screw gun, screws, lag bolts, speed square, tape measure, my lumber, and wood stain. Now all I need is to do it!
It really should not take long according to the picnic table plans and drawings, maybe a couple of hours, not counting the stain, and drying time of course.
According to the picnic table plans and drawings, I need nine 2×6 boards 8 feet long, not much cutting for those. That is five for the top and two for each bench, the legs and bracing consists of 2×4 boards.
Next, I need to take and make the legs and supports for the tabletop and smaller version for each bench out of the 2×4 boards. The legs for the table are 32″ long and the legs are 18″ long, so you need four boards 32″ long with the angles cut on both ends for the four tabletop legs. You also need eight legs that are 18″ long for the legs of the two benches. I am glad the plans tell me what angle to cut them at it really makes a difference of guessing to get it right. The supports are six foot long for the table and the benches, with the left over from the three supports is what the spacers for the legs are made from. The tabletop or sit attach to another 2×4 board and then the legs attach to it.
Sounds like it will be easy so far! The legs cross and vary in length, depending on how tall you want your table and benches to be. Longer legs, or crosses (X), will make you have a taller table, same goes for the benches. You could easily change the height and make this a kid’s picnic table by using the same plans, just shorter legs on the benches and the tabletop, so there is no need to buy another set of plans.
So far, you have the legs cut, the nine (9) eight-foot long 2×6 boards, the three (3) six foot 2×4 and then four (4) 10″ long 2×4 boards, two for each bench, and two 28″ long 2×4 boards for the top.
Next, you take one of the tabletop legs and screw it to the 28″ long board where the angle is flush with the top of the 2×4 and the corner is at the end of the 2×4. Next, you take the other leg and screw it on the other of the 2×4 the same way so that the legs point toward each other. The legs will not touch which is where the spacer from the scraps of the other 2×4 boards comes in; by putting one leg on each side of the 2×4, it will add some stability to the table and to the benches. Where the boards meet and cross is where you attach the six-foot long brace with lag bolts. The brace runs from one side’s set of legs to the other side’s set of legs. Then you simply screw the 2×6 boards down on the edge of the 2×4 that has the legs attached to it.
You simply follow the same steps to assemble the table, and both benches the same way as above. After you assemble everything, the only steps left is to stain the table and benches and after it is dry, you wait for the next opportunity to enjoy a nice sunny day to use your new picnic table you built using your picnic table plans and drawings.
